Plant-Based Soul Food in New York City

ABOUT CADENCE

Cadence is a vegan Southern + soul food restaurant in the East Village from Ravi Derossi’s Overthrow Hospitality. Tapping into her upbringing and plant-based ethos, Executive Chef Shenarri Freeman spotlights Southern foodways through the lens of health and sustainability.

ABOUT CHEF SHENARRI FREEMAN

Raised in Richmond, Virginia, Executive Chef Shenarri Freeman, aka “Shenarri Greens” began her hospitality career in 2011 while completing her undergraduate degree at Howard University. For  eight years, she cooked her way across DC before 2019, when she moved to New York to further her culinary skills at the Institute of Culinary Education, where she is currently enrolled in the Health Supportive Culinary Arts program. In 2017, Shenarri adopted a vegan diet, and via Cadence, is excited to showcase Southern foodways through a lens of health and sustainability.

Amor Y Amargo

When we opened Amor y Amargo in 2011, it was New York City’s first bitters-focused bar. Helmed by our legendary Beverage Director, Sother Teague, the bar still celebrates every manner of Italian amaro, bitter, and tincture we can get our hands on.
